I'm HOME!

Great news everyone, Ginger has been adopted into a wonderful home that is a perfect match! She has a couple Boston Terrier buddies to cuddle and play with and lots of off leash walks - we are thrilled. Thanks for checking back everyone and for all the support!

What - it's already September?!

Wow time has been flying by! Ginger has had a countless number of adventures since our last post... She got to hang out with her buddy Boomer for a week or so well she was dog sat (she was wonderful and her dogsitters came back with a pile of compliments and how low key she was!), we have moved into a new home that is still in a bit of a disary (she is currently sniffing amongst the piles of boxes, chairs, tables, and everything else), and she now lives with 4 men, her fostermom, and an 11 week old mixed breed puppy! She has been taking these changes smoothly, and is improving with her fear of men (she even has let the occasional one pet her head!).

Thanks for checking back - more will be posted later, as fostermom has to go to work.

Pictures

Please enjoy the photos... She is such a gorgeous girl!
PS - We have decided this girl has the perfect amount of energy - she is always ready to go for a walk or play in the yard, but settles so fast in the house and is super polite. We wish she would teach these skills to her fostersister!

More good times!

First off- we forgot to thank Dr. Wanda Vockeroth, D.V.M for providing some alternative options for Ginger! Check out the Marda Loop Veterinary Centre Website for more information about the many treatment options they provide.

Ginger is becoming more confident every day - she has learned 'down' and has started throwing in the occasional woof when the rest of the gang is talking. Otherwise than that she is one quiet gal. She loves long walks and meeting new dogs - she is always curious and gives them a sniff. Today she even got to play with a big puppy in the yard that was so much fun! She will run and run and run some more until it looks like she will walk on her tongue its sooo big. Her other big moment of the day? Foster dad got to give her a quick pat on the head. She is slowly getting more comfortable around him, but definitely prefers us human ladies.

What else? We are working on 'gentle' and 'drop'. Did we mention she loves chasing tennis balls? Perhaps there is a way to tire her out. She is not so good at returning them to you, so one needs at least two balls to play. Don't worry though folks, she will quickly settle in the house and save her energy for outside playtime. Thanks for checking back and we will keep you updated!

Superstar!

Ginger was great this weekend with all the strangers - she even let them sneak in some petting. We are very excited to see progress! She can frequently be seen playing with toys and trying to wrestle with her foster sister. This girl has endless amounts of energy - when she is outside in the yard she just loves to run around. When she is happy her tail is always going, and even her bum will start to wiggle back and forth with excitement. (Notice the blurry tail in the above photo!). As you can see, her 'sit' is coming along fabulous. She definetly prefers to be around other dogs, and is more anxious when she is alone. She absolutely adores her fostermom, and is quite the cuddle bug!

Ginger also had a big adventure this week - a vet visit! She weighs 20kg, and was a superstar. Her fostersister came along for moral support, and Ginger was comfortable enough to take cookies from the kind Dr. that we spoke with. We will be trying some homepathic and Bach Flower remedies to address her fearfulness, and we will continue to boost her confidence with training (toys and cookies are great things in doggy life). Thank you for checking back!

Looking forward to a busy weekend!

Hey folks,

Ginger has a busy weekend - there will be a few people in and out of the house, and we are excited to see how she does with all the strangers. Ginger has started to pick up and play with sticks and tennis balls in the yard finally - it's pretty cute as she proudly will pick one up, run around with it, and then realize the stick (or ball) in foster sister's mouth is much more exciting then hers... luckily foster sister is pretty tolerant of sharing her toys, as Ginger definitely is unaware of any boundaries when it comes to other dogs and their toys or body space.

She is getting much better at 'leave it' and starting to figure out this 'settle' thing. Foster mom thinks it would be good to teach her 'go to your mat' next. She is very good at practicing her 'sits' and 'leave its' with her other two dog buddies in the house, and really loves their company - and yes we have caught some doggy snuggling happening.

Did we mention Ginger LOVES playing along the river edge? She does not know how to swim yet, but bounces in and out of the shallows, and tries to help her dog pals pull in sticks. It is quite hilarious when she bounces into a deep spot and she disappears momentarily, before popping back out again with a huge grin on her face!

Meet Ginger

Thanks for looking at this beautiful athletic girl. Ginger has had some challenging struggles in the past, moving from Tennessee to Calgary, and is looking forward for a fresh start. Ginger is looking for a special home as she is one special girl. Her ideal home is:

- Very active. (Do you jog daily? Go hiking lots? Walks are one her top favorite activities in life!)
- Has another confident dog (or two or three) that loves playing.
- Is experienced working with anxious or fearful dogs.
- Calm adult only household please.

Ginger is a snuggly girl when she is comfortable, but is easily spooked by loud sounds and fast movements. She enjoys the company of females, but prefers to keep her distance from men. Her foster family is working with her to teach her that the house is not full of scary things, and that people = lots of cookies! She is great with dogs and has lived with cats in the past for those looking for a cat-friendly dog. She currently has two dog buddies to keep her busy!

Ginger is crate trained and currently knows 'sit', 'wait' and is very responsive to her name. We have started teaching 'leave it' and 'settle'. Conveniently she potties in only one section of the yard, which is great for clean up! She receives daily TTouch sessions which she enjoys (she will start to crawl into your lap!) and can often be found wearing a funning looking anxiety wrap. Fostermom will work on getting some more pictures of her. We will keep you updated, so keep checking back!
